Medieval village1/31/2024 You will learn medieval cooking by preparing meals, or discover the knowledge of herbs and plants. You will be able to work together with the craftsmen, stroll the streets and sit in the sun. Your own Archeon guide will take you by the hand and lead you around the town of Gravendam, the gardens, the furniture with their content, the crafstmen and their materials. You are part of an exclusive visit behind the scenes of medieval life in the 14th century. They will inform you of their costums and peculiarities. The townsfolk of the medieval town of Gravendam will welcome you with open arms. Other visitors of the park will hold conversation with you and may even ask to take your picture. After the day visitors leave there will be plenty of time to take your own pictures and enjoy a cozy campfire As well as your shoes and meals.ĭuring opening hours and while in historic costume, phones, watches, rings, make-up, television, newspaper, camera or other modern accesoires are not permitted. In the nearby building you will have acces to a toilets and showers. Your medieval clothing is authentic to the 14th century. Very comfortable, spacious and all in historic atmosphere. In the evening and morning you can make your own tea or coffee. A king size bed and two or three single beds. You will stay in the bedroom of the cobbler, weaver or joiners house. Using films, touch screens and hands-on replicas, a living picture is drawn of the Romans and the original inhabitants at the time. Display cases contain original acient Roman artefacts. On the ground floor, you enter Archeon's Roman Museum, where the Roman period in the Netherlands is brought to life interactively. At weekend here, AWN volunteers study and interpret all kinds of material that has been found. This part is certainly also worth a visit. On the same level is the studio of Archeologische Werkgemeenschap Nederland (AWN), Rijnstreek chapter. This ares holds a number of worktables, where young visitors can learn more about archaeology by engaging in the work. For example, an entire grave from the bronze age has been contructed, accompanied by the telling of a sensational story. The significance of all the items is explained by a special presentation. On the upper lever is Archeologyhouse South Holland, which exhibits the kinds of object discovered in the ground, from all periods, distant prehistory to early modern. The Roman museum in Archeon is housed in a reconstruction of a Gallo-Roman farmhouse.
